All about Xavier Aptitude Test (XAT) 2017

This page contains the detailed registration process of Xavier Aptitude Test (XAT) 2017.

The Xavier Aptitude Test (XAT) 2017 and XLRI 2017-19 notifications are out.  The application process for XAT and XLRI is with the same Application form by paying an additional amount. XLRI conducts XAT on behalf of the XAMI. For more than 60 years XLRI is conducting XAT at all India level to select the most appropriate students for management education. The XAT score is being used by more than 100 institutes for the admission. Following are the test registration and details for XAT 2017 registration.

Eligibility for XAT, XLRI- BM and HRM program

Recognized Bachelor’s degree of minimum three (3) years duration or equivalent in any discipline. Those completing their final examination by June 10th, 2017 may also apply. All Indian candidates must appear for XAT 2017. However, NRI and Foreign candidates may apply through GMAT score (except for Dubai and Kathmandu wherein candidates have an option of appearing for XAT 2017)

Eligibility for XLRI - GMP

Recognized bachelor’s degree of minimum three years duration in India/abroad with at least 5 years of managerial/supervisory experience by March 31, 2017.

Program Fees

BM and HRM (Batch of 2016-18): Rs. 18,00,000; GMP (Batch of 2016-18): Rs. 26,00,000 (2017-19 not yet announced)

2nd Stage Selection Process

BM: GD for 20 minutes followed by a PI with mostly 3 panelists of 25-30 minutes.

HRM: Case study or group exercise for 20 minutes (3 minutes given in the beginning to think and 20 seconds at the end to each participant to summarize) with about 10 allotted participants followed by a PI with three panelists.

Example of group exercise: a scenario was given followed by 7 courses of action, which participants had to rank in order of preference, followed by a discussion and deciding on a group ranking for each course of action. The interviews lasted for 20-25 minutes on an average and were stress interviews at times.

Test Pattern

4 Sections: Verbal and Logical Ability, Decision Making, Quantitative Ability & Data Interpretation, General Knowledge.
XAT includes Essay Writing as a part of the test.

Marking Pattern

Same as XAT 2016. To be announced in case of any changes

Each correct answer attracts 1 mark.

Negative Marking: As per the latest notification, a student can skip up to a total of 13 questions in the first 3 sections. Beyond this every skipped question will attract a penalty of 0.05 marks per question. In other words, you need to attempt a minimum of 65 questions out of 78 to avoid negative marking. Also, GK questions will not have negative marking.

Test Cities

Cities within India : 47; XAT 2017 will also be conducted in two international cities: Dubai and Kathmandu

Online (Credit Card / Debit Card / Online Banking), Cash (Can be done from any of the IDBI Bank branches located in India) and Demand Draft (in favour of XLRI Jamshedpur a/c)

Application Fees

Fees for students who pay within the deadlines:

For XAT: Rs. 1,600

For XLRI: XAT fees: Rs.1,600 and Rs. 300/- per XLRI course.

Fees for students who pay with Late Fees:

Cost of the Form: Rs. 2000, Rs. 500 per XLRI course

XAT and XLRI Form filling guidelines 


Applicants should note that registration for XAT 2017 and appearing for XAT 2017 is the preliminary step towards applying to XLRI and XAT Associate Institutes. Applicants to different institutes, besides XLRI have to apply separately to Institutes of their choice. 


  • Visit click on Register, create a new account with your personal email id, you will receive a unique XAT ID and registration link
  • Click on the link and create your own password. (Next time you will be allowed to login with this XAT ID and password)
  • Select the Test City, write Name, upload photo and signature and save it
  • Select your Citizenship (Indian/ Foreign / NRI)
  • If you are interested to apply for XLRI, select the programme of your choice Business Management (BM)/Human Resource Management (HRM)/General Management Programme (GMP). Candidates not interested in any of the XLRI programmes can skip this step
  • Fill preliminary information (Name, Date of Birth, Gender, Father’s Name, Mother’s Name, Category and Phone Number etc.)
  • Provide your mailing address and permanent address
  • Provide your educational qualification starting from 10th onwards
  • Provide details of work experience starting from the latest job. Candidates desirous of applying to GMP must have total experience of five years till March 31, 2017
  • Select Mode of Payment: There are three possible modes of payment
    • Mode 1: Online Payment Gateway
      • Through VISA/Master Credit/Debit Cards 
        (American Express Card is inadmissible)
      • IDBI Net banking (this option is available only for IDBI account holder)
    • Mode 2: Cash Payment
      Please take a print out of the XAT Pay-In-Slip visit nearest IDBI bank and make the payment.
    • Mode 3: Demand Draft
      Please make a DD made from any Bank in favour of "XLRI Jamshedpur A/c XAT" payable at Jamshedpur


Important: Applicant paying through Mode 2 & 3 should update the payment details in the registration page


  • Candidates only interested in XAT but not in XLRI need to pay a fee of Rs. 1600/-(Rupees Sixteen Hundred only). Candidates interested in XLRI programme(s) needs to pay an additional fee of Rs.300/- each
  • Print XAT Confirmation page, in future for all correspondence with XAT office, quote your XAT ID
  • Send Confirmation page and the Demand Draft to:

    The same must be sent within fifteen days from the issuance of DD
    If you have made the payment other than DD you should not send the confirmation page

Once you provide your email id you will receive a unique XAT ID.


  • Please quote your email (provided during the registration) and XAT ID for all future communication
  • Please ensure that you provide a valid email address
  • Please ensure that you use your personal email address only as your primary email address in the application. (If you use your official email address and in case you switch jobs, it would be difficult for us to communicate with you)
  • Please add as trusted sources in the anti-Spam software of your email. Otherwise, either you will not receive important emails or they will get delivered to your Spam/junk folder
  • Please access your emails regularly and ensure that your inbox is accessible
  • Please note that the XAT ID and password gives you an individual login on and on frequent intervals, you need to check for mails from XAT & other associated institutes


Note: If you do not receive the registration confirmation mail, with your XAT ID & Password, within 24 hours of signing up, please check your spam/junk folder just in case the confirmation email got delivered there instead of your inbox. Procedure for applying to XAT Associate Institutions using XAT Score


The candidate desirous of joining any of XAT Member Institutes has to follow the steps given below:


  • Register for XAT 2017 at
  • Obtain the Application Form after registering online by making appropriate payment. Further details can be obtained from the respective Institution's website or their Admissions office. Follow their registration/application procedure
  • Candidates may please note that XLRI does not ascertain quality of the degree or programme(s) offered by other XAT Associate Institutions
  • Please note that each institution independently decides the weightages to be given for each of the test components on the basis of its needs. XLRI does not play any role in selection of the candidates in these institutes




  • All payments made for registration for XAT and XLRI are non-refundable.
  • The XAT Score Card containing the performance of the candidate in XAT 2017 will be mailed individually to all the candidates.
