There are a lot of speculations about how this global crisis is going to pan out. Apart from it impacting the way we operate and interact in this world, socially, the impact on economy, jobs and career will be something that we all will need to cope with. We know that large swaths of economy are grinding to a halt. But you can take respite on the fact that it is happening to the entire world. So, you are not alone. The International Monetary Fund in its recent forecast mentioned that the pandemic could be the worst economic slump since the Great Depression. The bigger question is, how long will this situation last? We don’t know.

As a mid-career executive, what should be your plan of action keeping this current situation in mind? If you are someone who has been planning to build up your resume for some time now, or even thinking about enrolling for a one-year MBA programme then this might be the time to act upon that thought and start preparing for it. Why?
New jobs will be difficult to find and you can forget about that promotion given the economic slowdown and you might even have to take a salary cut on top of that. So, it is a good time to build your resume with a one-year executive management programme, simply, because by the time you finish your programme, the economy will be relatively stronger, there will be more jobs to apply for and you will have an additional qualification now. It is a win-win situation for you.
As the saying goes, ‘necessity is the mother of invention’. So, think about now with this current crisis, think tanks and experts are looking at it as an opportunity to take those technological leaps that would have probably come about in the next 5 – 10 years. This is a great time to interact with the professors and learn how to find business solutions in such scenarios as being a part of the case study.
In case, the above mentioned reasons make you ponder on what should be your next step, you might find the table below useful. The table also mentions some short term programmes as well apart from just the one-year executive management programmes.
